About The Work: In 2016, I focused on cut paper collages using hand painted acrylic papers. My intent was to explore the intersection of line, shape and color in order to create a kind of twofold narrative. On one hand, each piece tells a literal story about color relationships, how lines are used, and how shapes can be made to do one thing or another. It's a very "painterly" or artistic pursuit, perhaps even termed "non objective" in art speak language. On the other hand, there is also a literal "narrative" to each piece. What does the viewer see? What kind of "story" or message is the artist telling or sending? In other words, just what is going on here? It is appealing to me as an artist to believe that each piece can have multiple meanings, regardless of original intent. That alone is what kept me going with these pieces in 2016.
