At the end of 2018, I found myself returning to the ideas that I enjoyed with my 2016 and 2017 collage paintings. There is just something about cutting shapes out of painted papers that is very satisfying. My pieces feel like puzzles to me, only the kind of puzzles that don't come with an image printed on the box top. I often have no idea where to start, where to go or how things will finish. With the exception of some of the "political" pieces shown on this page, the work starts with no real plan in mind. I work best this way and find the outcomes to be a wonderful surprise.
